This month interview is with a very special breeder who is focusing on CBD Medical strains only !

Name :  CBD Crew, is a collaboration between breeders!
Started by / Fondé par : Jaime Carrion Garcia, Resin Seeds & Shantibaba aka Scott Blakey, Mr.Nice Seeds.
Age: CBD Crew is 4 years on the market.
Hometown : Jaime is from Spain, Scott is from Australia.
Current location : Barcelona

What’s their favorite type of weed ?

One of Scott’s all time favorites is the Mango and one of Jaime’s favorites is Dieseltonic.
But a good grower with a good strain will make both happy.

Mais un bon cultivateur avec une bonne variété nous rendra tous les deux heureux.

Smoking or vaporizing ?

We normally smoke. We don’t mind a puff from the vapor, but normally we are both old fashion joint rollers.
But of course if you have any health issues, smoking on a vapor will offer you a cleaner product.

Joint ou vaporisateur ?

Nous fumons habituellement. On est pas contre tirer une latte sur un vapo, mais nous sommes deux rouleurs de oinj à l’ancienne.
Mais bien entendu si vous avez des problèmes de santé, fumer avec un vapo sera bien plus sain.

When did you start Breeding and how did you begin to find a passion for it ?

Scott:
I started breeding when I was doing biology at University and each year I traveled to India, Burma, Thailand, Indonesia and collected seeds….the passion came as things worked and my garden became an exhibition for land races in Melbourne…for a select few. The real passion and seriousness of the work came later when I went to Holland in the 1990 and began GHSco ….and won a lot of awards. It was confirmation my personal choices were acceptable for the masses…the rest is history, 30 odd years later as I am still doing it. And loving the new direction and development in the cannabis world.

Jaime:
I started breeding about 10 years ago. I had been growing for a long time and for me it was a natural evolution after growing and flowering many different strains for many years. Most of them given to me by other good breeders so I had a good starting point. It was just a matter of time to start crossing them with each other to get new aromas and flavors.

Quand avez vous commencé à « breeder » et comment est ce devenu une passion ?

Scott:
J’ai commencé à breeder quand je faisais de la biologie à l’université, et tous les ans je voyageais en Inde, Birmanie, Thaïlande, Indonésie pour ramener des graines…. la passion est venu car cela poussais fort et mon jardin est devenu une exposition de Land Race à Melbourne… pour une poignée de privilégiés. La vraie passion et l’engouement pour ce travail est venu quand j’étais en Hollande dans les années 90 au début de GHSco… et j’ai remporté beaucoup de prix d’excellence. Ça confirme que mes choix personnels étaient acceptables pour un publique de masse, 30 ans plus tard je pratique encore. Et j’adore la direction que prend le monde du cannabis.

Jaime:
J’ai commencé à breeder il y a 10 ans. je cultivais depuis belle lurette et ce fut pour moi une évolution toute naturelle après avoir fait pousser de nombreuses variétés pendant plusieurs années. La plupart m’ont été données par d’autres bons breeders, cela à été une bonne base. C’était juste une histoire de temps pour que je commence à les croiser afin d’obtenir de nouveaux arômes et de nouveaux gouts.

What inspires you the most in breeding ?

Scott:
The biggest inspiration in breeding was probably not the smartest thing I did in retrospect. And that was creating the White family, very high in THC. But today I have had even bigger inspiration (since breeding for CBD Crew )  and that was the news that I finally hit a stable high CBD and low THC strain in seed form. Probably one of those life challenges that prevailed and while it is not yet in production I have the tools and am the most excited about a breeding program than I have ever been. Add the fact I received a 502 recreational license in Washington State in the USA makes the inspiration and work that much more appealing. It feels all the persistence and lows in the past were all for a bigger picture. To be able to make a difference.

Jaime:
What inspires to me more in breeding now is the search for the right medicinal strain adapted to each sickness, as we see different strains help different people trough our work with CBD Crew.. And breeding according to chemiotype to determine the right combination of cannabinoids/ terpenoids to treat different symptoms. With grow licenses and studies, the future will be very interesting.

Qu’est ce qui vous inspire le plus dans la culture et les croisements ?

Scott:
Rétrospectivement, ma plus grande inspiration pour le breeding n’était certainement pas la plus intelligente. Et c’était de créer la famille des « White », très forte en THC. Mais maintenant j’ai une encore plus grande inspiration (depuis que je breed pour CBD Crew) et cela grâce au fait  j’ai enfin réussi à faire une variété stable haute en CBD et bas en THC en graines. C’est probablement le challenge d’une vie et même si c’est pas encore en production j’ai tous les outils et je n’ai jamais été autant excité par un programme de breedage. Ajouter à cela que j’ai reçu une licence récréative 502 dans l’état de Washington au USA, fait de cette inspiration un travail encore plus appréciable. Il semblerai que toutes les galères du passé furent pour la meilleur, afin d’être capable de faire la différence.

Jaime:
Ce qui m’inspire le plus dans le breeding maintenant et la recherche de variété médicale adaptées à chaque maladie, comme nous pouvons le constater différentes variétés peuvent aider différentes personnes grâce au travail que l’on a fourni avec CBD Crew… Et breeder en accord avec différents phénotypes pour déterminer la bonne combinaison entre cannabinoides et terpénoides afin de traiter différents symptômes, avec une licence en culture et de bonnes études, le future sera très intéressant.

Can you give us 5 things a Breeder should do these days ?

– Calibrate ph and ec machines regularly.
– Lab test for breeding confirmation.
– Always keep best 3 selections of a mother from seed till you run them a few times and are sure.
– Control terpene profiles of plants as these will be the future finger printing of a plant.
– Breeding means busting open a lot of seeds and numbers. So best you do more seed testing than less to be sure of the expression you are selling.

Look for something different, there are a lot of people trying to breed now, you have to be innovative.
Not just rename an existing strain and claim it.

Peux tu nous donner 5 choses qu’un breeder devrait faire de nos jours

– Calibrer ses testeurs de PH et d’EC régulièrement.
– Test en laboratoire pour confirmer les croisements.
– Toujours garder les trois meilleures sélections de mères à partir de la graine pendant les test,  jusqu’au point d’en être sur.
– Contrôler le profil des terpènes car çava être la future empreinte digitale de la plante.
– Faire des croisements demande de faire germer beaucoup de graines, il est toujours préférable d’essayer le maximum de graines pour savoir à qui vous avez à faire.

Essayez de faire des choses différentes, il y a beaucoup de personnes qui essaient de faire des croisements aujourd’hui, il faut être innovant.
Pas juste renommer des variété déjà existantes.

Is there any exciting project you’re working on right now ?

Yes, or we are just finishing up with our latest stain, a stable low THC and high CBD strain.  This will be the first ever stable low THC, high CBD cannabis strain in seed form. And it’s all cannabis genetics, no hemp. It took a few yeas, but it’s finally here! The CBD Therapy. Hoping to release it end 2015/beginning 2016.  This is a great strain for people looking for seeds to grow for their children and for people with chronic inflammation etc.

Y a t il un projet excitant sur lequel vous travaillez en ce moment ?

Oui, nous venons juste de finir avec notre dernière variété, stable avec un taux de THC assez bas et un taux de CBD très élévé. Ce sera la toute première variété stable basse en THC et forte en CBD en graine. Cette varitété est uniquement à base de génétiques de cannabis, pas de chanvre. Cela nous a pris des années et elle est finalement arrivée ! La CBD thérapie. On espère la commercialiser fin 2015 début 2016. C’est une variété parfaite pour les gens qui cherche à faire pousser des graines pour des enfants et des adultes atteins d’inflamations chroniques ect..
